MLB Network’s Top 100 Players Right Now Heading Into 2013
As I did last year, I’ll be keeping a running list of the Top 100 Players Right Now as they are revealed on MLB Network, eventually compiling the entire list.
They will have revealed all 100 by the end of Tuesday, February 26th. I’ll update this same space as they reveal the remaining entries.
As before I will understandably highlight the Brewers players on the list. Last year there were six Brewers on the list. Rickie Weeks was 83, John Axford was 77, Yovani Gallardo was 72, Aramis Ramirez was 66, Zack Greinke was 64, and Ryan Braun was too low at number 9.
Based on what has been revealed, it would appear a safe bet that Rickie Weeks has fallen off of the list. And how about John Axford? Could he really be in the Top 40 or did he fall off too? I’m guessing he fell off despite his fantastic 2011 season.
Looks like the Brewers will only have three this year.
The criteria for the list remains the same:
- Emphasized stats from the last three (3) seasons, weighting 2012
- Projected 2013 performance
- Defensive position
- Accolades
- Intangibles

7 cardinals are on it this year
hahah David Ortiz number 60 that’s a joke, how many players had a year like he had ? 320, 400, 600 ???Whatttt, even though he spent like 70 games in DL he was crushing it!! …. Aramis most underrated player in the world period
this is the worst list in history. this whole thing is a joke. how do they come up with this?
They’ve got a team that works on the rankings along with their projection system based on the criteria I have listed at the top.
Braun could hit any ball that Miggy can, the difference is that braun will steal 30 bags this year and Miggy might get 1 on accident.
This is a terrible list… it could easily be broken apart into why it’s wrong.
It’s not even complete yet, but feel free to air your grievances. After all, it’s not my ranking.
Kemp #1
Yea kemp will cream everyone stealing 40 w/ 40 homers and kershaw w/ a cy young season I still can’t believe kemp didn’t get MVP what a rip the judges were just jealous of his talent you douches
I agree
It’s a farce!! Buster Posey #21 ,come on. That alone makes this list a joke.
emphasized last 3 seasons, yet has a player with 1 season as #1.
Agreed. Trout had a great year. But he has only done it once. Cabrera at three is just silly. He and Braun should be 1 and 2. Braun doesn’t have the injury concerns that Kemp does. Kemp missed so many games, It doesn’t make sense he would be ranked ahead of Braun. And why isn’t Corey Hart on this list at all?
If you weren’t a moron and would just read the title, it says top 100 RIGHT NOW. It doesn’t matter what Trout hasn’t done in the past, it matters what he’s doing NOW. As of now (last season being the sample), Trout is the all around best player. He’s a five tool player. Cabrera can’t run or play even a decent defense at third. Cabrera is all offense. But they’re not just looking at offense, they’re looking at all around play. I wish people could just get that through their heads.
Their own criteria says they weigh statistics from the last three years, emphasizing 2012. Plenty of guys get knocked down because of off years, like when David Wright wasn’t even on the list heading into 2012 for example.
Trout’s arm is like your sister’s. 4 tools.
If Jason would read beyond the title, he would see that they take into account the past three years in their rankings. Cabrera doesn’t have the range of an elite third basemen, but he has a very strong arm, making his defense at third better than most give him credit for. He is passable on defense and arguably the most dangerous offensive weapon in baseball. Let’s see if Trout can have more than a half season. I’m guessing he will hit 300 with 25 homers, 75 rbi’s, 115 runs, and 40 stolen bases. Great numbers, but not the embodiment of Christ in a baseball uniform life some would like to believe. So, to sum up. Trout IS NOT God, Cabrera is the best player in baseball, and Jason is an asshole.
Come on mark teixera should be on this list
I notice again the PATHETIC East Coast bias in ths dopey list. Two time World Champion Giants, with their MVP Player, Cy Young Award winners, and No-Hiiter pitcher have only 5 players. AND THEY BEAT ALL THE TEAMS LISTED AHEAD OF THEM. Have fun in your toy east coast parks as you lose again to the Giants.
Texiera def should be on this list.
