Press Release: Jeff Levering Joins Brewers in Play-By-Play, New Media Role
Will Broadcast Select Games and Provide Content for Brewers.com and Social Channels
MILWAUKEE, WI – The Milwaukee Brewers today announced that Jeff Levering will join the organization as the newest member of the Brewers radio broadcast team. Levering will serve as a play-by-play broadcaster on select road games on 620 WTMJ and the Brewers Radio Network, as well as provide content for the Brewers online, social and new media channels.
In his new role, Levering will handle three innings of play-by-play as he fills in on games missed by Brewers Hall of Fame broadcaster, Bob Uecker. For days when he is not on the air, Levering will provide video, photo, audio and written content for Brewers.com and various other Brewers social media platforms.
Levering’s first official day with the Brewers will be this Sunday as he will be welcomed on the Main Stage at Brewers On Deck (10 am-5 pm at the Wisconsin Center).
“Jeff will be a great addition to the organization, and this is an opportunity for him to contribute both in the radio booth and in our new media efforts,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “By creating this role, we have a consistent voice filling in when Bob elects to stay home on occasional road trips, and we add resources to our expanding social media outreach. We welcome Jeff to the organization and look forward to introducing him to Brewers fans at Brewers On Deck.”
Levering spent the past two seasons as the lead play-by-play broadcaster of the reigning International League champion Pawtucket Red Sox. In addition to his game-day broadcasting duties, he hosted the pre- and post-game shows, “PawSox” Insider, a weekly, one-hour radio magazine show; provided video content for the team website and wrote a blog, “45 Miles from Fenway,” which ranked in the Top-15 nationally among Minor League writers.
“I am thrilled beyond words to be joining the Milwaukee Brewers broadcast team as well as their talented front office,” Levering said. “Being part of a radio booth that features the legendary Bob Uecker and Joe Block is a tremendous honor, and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly. Calling games in the Major Leagues has been a dream of mine since I was a kid and to have a chance to realize it is truly amazing. I can’t thank the Brewers enough for their faith in me and allowing me the opportunity to work in such a terrific organization. My family is excited to immerse ourselves in Milwaukee and be diehard Brewers fans.”
Levering received his degree in broadcast journalism from Chapman University in Orange, California where he also played baseball all four years and was the starting designated hitter on the 2003 D-III National Championship baseball team in Appleton, WI. He and his wife, Ashley, have a son, Brock, who was born in October of 2014.
“We’re excited to integrate Jeff into the Brewers radio broadcast with Bob and Joe,” said Carl Moll, Director of Network Operations for Journal Broadcast Group. “His work in the minor leagues has been impressive and he’s ready to move to the Major League level.”
Brewers Wall of Honor Unveiled Today
The Milwaukee Brewers will formally unveil the “Brewers Wall of Honor” at Miller Park today. The Wall of Honor will commemorate Milwaukee Brewers players that meet a set criteria based on service to the club. A total of 36 former Brewers players will attend today’s ceremony, marking the largest single gathering of Brewers alumni in team history, surpassing the 31 players who came in for the final game at County Stadium in 2000.

The Wall of Honor will be a permanent display outside of Miller Park on a wall on the North side of the ballpark. Players on the Wall of Honor will each have a plaque with their photo and a brief synopsis of their playing career. The plaques are designed by Matthews International, designers of the plaques for the National Baseball Hall of Fame as well as the plaques on the Milwaukee Braves Wall of Honor at Miller Park.

Brewers Announce Bob Uecker Statue
BREWERS TO DEDICATE A BOB UECKER STATUE IN “THE LAST ROW”
Statue Will Be Dedicated on April 25 in the “Uecker Seats” Atop Miller Park’s Terrace Level
The Milwaukee Brewers today announced plans for a new Bob Uecker statue at Miller Park. Unlike the statues that surround Miller Park’s Home Plate Plaza, this statue will be in the last row—yes, the last row of the Terrace Level at Miller Park.
The statue will pay tribute to the popular Miller Lite “All Stars” ad campaign which featured Uecker’s famous tagline, “I must be in the front row.” In the commercial, Uecker ended up in the last row—as will this statue. The statue will sit atop the Uecker Seats in Miller Park’s Terrace Level (Section 422) and will feature an open seat next to it allowing for a perfect photo opportunity.
“I can’t think of a better place to put this statue,” Uecker said. “This will be great for fans and even better for pigeons. You might even be able to see a little part of the field.”
The statue was designed by Brian Maughan, the artist of the four statues outside Miller Park on the Home Plate Plaza—Hank Aaron, Allan H. “Bud” Selig, Robin Yount and Uecker. The statue will be made of bronze, but will also have color effects.
“Bob Uecker is synonymous with the Brewers and his famous ‘I must be in the front row’ tagline is iconic,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “This statue will definitely become a destination for fans visiting Miller Park.”
The statue will be dedicated on the afternoon of Friday, April 25 at Miller Park. More details will be provided closer to that date.

Details regarding autographs include the following: Recipients of “PREMIER” autographs (players to be announced next week) will be chosen through a random selection process. Each fan in attendance will receive one Premier Entry sheet which may be redeemed at the Random Selection area outside the Main Exhibit Hall of the Wisconsin Center District. The Premier Entry sheet will be exchanged for a numbered coupon to be entered into the random selection process for any one of the select Brewers players. Coupon distribution will be available at 8 a.m. the day of the event and will continue up to an hour before each designated autograph session. There is no cost for coupons to enter the random selection process; however, those holding winning coupons must pay $10 at the respective autograph stage to collect their player signature. There will be 250 winners for each of the autograph sessions. The winning ticket numbers will be posted at the designated autograph stage no less than 30 minutes prior to each player’s session.
Players and staff not included in the PREMIER autograph list will not use the random selection process. Each of these players will sign 250 autographs at prices ranging from free to $10. A schedule of players, their session times, and distribution info will be posted next week. The autograph opportunities are for signatures on photo cards provided by the team; the Brewers cannot guarantee that any player will sign other memorabilia. Autograph proceeds benefit Brewers Community Foundation. Please note that cash is the only acceptable form of payment for autographs. The Brewers cannot guarantee that any player will sign other memorabilia, and personalization of items is solely up to the discretion of each player.

Brewers Set to Unveil Uecker Statue on Friday
The Milwaukee Brewers will formally unveil a statue of Hall-of-Fame Broadcaster Bob Uecker on Friday in a ceremony just outside of Miller Park. In front of an audience of friends, family and dignitaries, the statue will be revealed at its home near Miller Park’s Home Plate Plaza. Bob Costas, broadcaster with NBC Sports and the MLB Network, will serve as emcee.
Uecker’s statue will join those of Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and Commissioner of Baseball Allan H. “Bud” Selig. The Aaron and Yount statues were unveiled on April 5, 2001, the first year of Miller Park’s existence, and were donated by the Allan H. (Bud) Selig Foundation. On August 24, 2010, Selig became the third honoree when his statue was unveiled in an afternoon program.
The Uecker statue is cast in bronze, measures over seven feet in height not including the base, and was designed and produced by Brian Maughan, who (along with Douglas Kwart) also created the Aaron, Selig and Yount statues.
Please note: there will be an extremely limited amount of standing room available for the general public outside of the tent. Space is first come, first served. The ceremony will also be televised live on FOX Sports Wisconsin.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Baseball,” Uecker’s name is synonymous with summertime in Wisconsin as he has brought Milwaukee Brewers baseball to generations of fans listening to games on the Brewers Radio Network. His irreverent style and knowledge of the game are unrivaled, and Uecker’s talents have been known to audiences worldwide for years through his work on television and film projects.
Uecker’s resume is stacked with activities and honors, but all feature one common thread – he always leaves the audience laughing. There may be no better testament to this than when he was honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame with the Ford C. Frick Award in 2003. Uecker’s acceptance speech has now become legend as he left the audience, which included former U.S. President George H. Bush, in tears from laughter.
While Uecker’s roots will always be in baseball (including six seasons as a player and 42 years as a Brewers broadcaster), his career includes an incredible base of performing and entertaining.
Uecker blasted onto the national scene as an entertainer in 1969. A visit with Al Hirt led to Johnny Carson booking Uecker for an appearance on the “Tonight Show.” The chemistry between Uecker and Carson was immediate, and it led to approximately 100 encore appearances. Uecker soon became one of the most sought-after guests on the Talk Show circuit as appearances followed on the “Mike Douglas” and “Merv Griffin” shows, “Late Night with David Letterman” and even a hosting role on “Saturday Night Live.”
Highly respected in the industry, Uecker was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2001. This past April, Uecker took his place in the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Hall of Fame.
Uecker’s credits go far beyond guest appearances and play-by-play. In 1985, he launched a television acting career as one of the stars of ABC’s sitcom “Mr. Belvedere,” which put 122 episodes into syndication. He also hosted two syndicated television shows, “Bob Uecker’s Wacky World of Sports” and “Bob Uecker’s War of the Stars.”
One of Uecker’s most memorable roles came as the anchor of arguably the most successful advertising campaign in the history of television – The “Miller Lite All-Stars.” For years, Uecker served as the captain of the crew that acted in spots promoting Lite Beer from Miller.
As a film actor, Uecker starred in what is widely regarded as one of the best-known baseball movies of all time, serving as a radio announcer in the film “Major League.” He followed that up with a reprised role in the equally popular “Major League II.”
Uecker’s national sports broadcasting experience included serving as color commentator for ABC Sports coverage of Monday Night Baseball, League Championship Series and World Series, and NBC’s Major League Baseball Game of the Week.
A former catcher who spent six seasons in the Major Leagues, Bob authored a book entitled “Catcher In the Wry,” a humorous look back on the years he spent with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. One of his career highlights as a player came in 1964 when he was a member of the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals.
Despite his national attention and success, Uecker has always worked toward helping others. His charitable efforts benefit many organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Bob Uecker to be Inducted into National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame Tomorrow
The legendary voice of the Milwaukee Brewers, Bob Uecker, will be inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Hall of Fame during the NAB Show Radio Luncheon tomorrow afternoon in Las Vegas.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Baseball,” Uecker is currently in his 42nd year calling play-by-play on Newsradio 620 WTMJ-AM and the Brewers Radio Network. The former-player-turned-broadcaster has completed 30 seasons as the club’s lead announcer and is celebrating his 57th year in professional baseball in 2012.
Uecker’s popularity with baseball fans, both on radio and television, afforded him other opportunities. He did color commentary and play-by-play announcing on NBC and ABC covering regular season baseball, the League Championship Series, the World Series and MLB All-Star Games.
In addition to his baseball work, Uecker was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and hosted two syndicated television shows, “Bob Uecker’s Wacky World of Sports” and “Bob Uecker’s War of the Stars.” He also appeared as a spokesman for Miller Lite Beer, in a major role on the ABC hit series “Mr. Belvedere,” and in six feature films including Major League and Major League II.
Uecker was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2001 and honored with the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award for broadcast excellence in 2003. The five-time Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year is also in the Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame. During his days as a player, Uecker was a member of the 1964 St. Louis Cardinals World Series Championship team.
Previous NAB Radio Broadcasting Hall of Fame inductees with baseball ties include Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Harry Caray and Mel Allen.
Uecker will miss tomorrow’s Brewers game at Miller Park to attend the induction ceremony. Dave Nelson will join Joe Block in the broadcast booth for the game. Uecker will be back in the booth on Wednesday for the Brewers-Dodgers game at Miller Park.
It was announced last month that the Brewers will honor Uecker with a statue placed outside Miller Park. The statue will be placed near the Home Plate Plaza and will be dedicated on August 31.
“Mr. Baseball” Bob Uecker to be Immortalized With a Statue at Miller Park
The Milwaukee Brewers today announced that the legendary “Mr. Baseball,” Bob Uecker, will be honored this summer with a statue placed outside of Miller Park. The statue will be located near Miller Park’s Home Plate Plaza.
Uecker’s name is synonymous with summertime in Wisconsin as he has brought Milwaukee Brewers baseball to generations of fans listening to games on the Brewers Radio Network. His irreverent style and knowledge of the game are unrivaled, and Uecker’s talents have been known to audiences worldwide for years through his work on television and film projects.
“The joy that Bob has brought to us over the years is priceless, and with 2012 being the 50th Anniversary of his first Major League game, there’s no better time than now to celebrate his achievements,” said Brewers Chairman and Principal Owner Mark Attanasio. “Bob represents everything that is good about Milwaukee and Wisconsin. He is an iconic figure for the franchise, and his passion for the Brewers is second-to-none. Bob is a national treasure who calls Wisconsin home. I’m proud to have him as a great friend. I couldn’t be happier to add this statue to his legacy.”
“I am honored and grateful to everyone in the Brewers organization for this tribute,” Uecker said. “I would especially like to thank Mark Attanasio, who has become a friend and a confidant, his wife Debbie, and the Attanasio family. I would also like to thank our fans for their support. I hope they have enjoyed listening to the games as much as I have enjoyed doing the broadcasts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you.”
While Uecker’s roots will always be in baseball (including six seasons as a player and 42 years as a Brewers broadcaster), his career includes an incredible base of performing and entertaining.
Uecker blasted onto the national scene as an entertainer in 1969. Highly respected in the industry, Uecker was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2001. And this April the honors will continue as Uecker takes his place in the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Hall of Fame.
Uecker’s credits go far beyond guest appearances and play-by-play. In 1985, he launched a television acting career as one of the stars of ABC’s sitcom “Mr. Belvedere,” which put 122 episodes into syndication. Despite his national attention and success, Uecker has always worked toward helping others. His charitable efforts benefit many organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Uecker will be the fourth person to be honored with a Miller Park statue. Hank Aaron and Robin Yount were the first to be recognized with statues that were unveiled on April 5, 2001, the first year of Miller Park’s existence. The first two statues were donated by the Allan H. (Bud) Selig Foundation. On August 24, 2010, Major League Baseball Commissioner and former Brewers Owner Allan H.
